Choosing preferences

TDApp provides information about ADHD, its impact, available medications, efficacy, and side effects. This information will help you choose your preferences regarding ADHD treatment. To indicate your preferences, we will ask you to rate the importance of a series of therapeutic goals and side effects from 1 to 9. TDApp will use this information to identify the medication most likely to help you achieve your goals successfully.

Information on the side effects of ADHD, what medications are available and the adverse side effects of medications can be accessed below. We hope this information will help you decide your ADHD treatment preferences.

What is meant by “preferences"?

Preferences refers to the goals that you want to achieve with treatment and any unwanted side effects of treatment. We will provide a list of 3 types of preferences for you to choose from: related to therapeutic goals; with side effects; and the acceptability of the treatment.

What are therapeutic goals?

Therapeutic goals are the aspects related to ADHD you want to improve or prevent with treatment. We have included several therapeutic goals and we would like you to indicate how important each goal is for you. TDApp provides you with information which will help you decide how important the various goals are for you.

What are adverse side effects?

Adverse side effects are unwanted, harmful reactions to a medicine. You must indicate the importance you give to each of the adverse side effects on the list. TDApp provides you with information about each side effect which will help you determine how important it is for you.

What is acceptability?

Acceptability refers to the degree to which the beneficial effects of a treatment outweigh the adverse side effects. In conditions such as ADHD, stopping treatment is used as a measure of acceptability. This is because a patient is unlikely to stop taking a medication when it significantly improves their health problem and has few adverse side effects.

How do I indicate the importance of each goal and adverse side effect?

We will ask you to indicate the importance you give to each goal and adverse side effect using a scale like the one below with a rating from 1 to 9.

“1” means that the therapeutic goal or adverse side effect is not at all important to you.

“9” this means that the therapeutic goal or adverse side effect is extremely important to you.

You can use any value between 1 and 9 (from minimum to maximum) to indicate the degree of importance.

Why do I need to indicate the importance of each goal and adverse side effect?

TDApp is a tool designed to recommend the best treatment to fit with your preferences. To do this, TDApp is connected to a database of comprehensive information on ADHD treatments. Using your specific preferences, TDApp identifies the treatment that best fits these preferences. There are a wide range of medications for treating ADHD, each with different degrees of efficacy and its own particular side effects. Therefore, treatment can vary considerably depending on how you rate the various therapeutic goals and adverse side effects on the list.

You will find the list of preferences with the information you need to help you decide their importance below.
